Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Okay, I've back tracked a bit and am now back in San Francisco. I heard from Loren that Halloween can be rather fun in this town, so I got a ride up from LA yesterday and then had a 24 hr day, strolling back to Loren's place at 7.30 this morning. Trying to quote Susan Cooper, "The night will be bad, and tomorrow will be beyond belief." I was told that last night's festivities were simply a warm up to tonight's and I've been assured I shan't be sleeping for a long, long time. I spent the night at a party thrown by the Space Cowboys, whom I must thank for an entirely wonderful evening. Monday, I will head back down to LA and see about finally getting my flight to Fiji. Well, that's all I've got for now, the Sun has set and the witches and goblins are roaming the streets of San Franciso, and many things plan to go bump during the night.

It's Still True

I sit here in the LA afternoon sun, worn out, a shell, a wreck, my mind gone only the smile remains. We Did It! I have recollections of last night, diving off tables, hugging the entire bar, on my back on the floor being lifted as I screamed for joy. And as I sit here, all I can think is, "It's Still True." The Red Sox are The World Champions! It's the greatest feeling in the World. What a fall, what a post season, two sweeps and delivering the Yankees the greatest humiliation in baseball. No one can ever take this away. Thank you, Red Sox.

Should I Stay, or Should I Go?

Well, with the last vestiges of my hangover wearing off I sit in a finally sunny LA, glowing from last night's victory, Good finally triumphing over Evil. And, while I told many that were the Sox to go back to the World Series, I would in turn go back to Boston, Boston will have to wait till I come home 'cross the Atlantic. Yet, I've found a home of sorts here on the beaches of LA, in Hermosa there is a Boston Sports Bar where I've spent the last two nights singing and swearing, cheering and jeering as the Sox pulled off their improbable triumph (When Johnny comes marching home again, Hurrah! Hurrah!). So, in this bastion of Boston, I've chosen to watch next week's game and await its outcome before finally exiting the US. So, with Jay and John I will sit next week watching the Sox play, wearing the fuzzy, pink sweater that I'm convinced was instrumental in last night's win (plus it's pretty, and right now, so are the Sox).

Game 7

Well, I'm still in LA and despite everything I've heard about this place, it's been raining four straight days. However, my new friend Jay has pointed out maybe the flooding of this town has been washing away whatever woes have beset the Sox. I holed up in a Red Sox bar I found in Hermosa Beach last night, drinking nervously till Keith Foulke closed the door on the Yankees, and then drinking rather jubilantly after that. It would seem that the entire course of my travels teeter on tonight's game, so all I can say is that I hope that Fiji has to wait a bit longer.

Finally in LA

Okay, it took two and a half weeks, but I've finally made it down from San Francisco to LA, ironically leaving the 90F weather of the Bay area for the somewhat cooler temperatures of LA. Loren decided to head down to LA with me, and is staying down with some friends til Friday. I'm staying in Manhatten Beach with my cousin, Big Bob, and his wife and son. Anyway, that's all for now, more will follow soon.

Howling at the Stars

It's about noonish, and I've not been in San Francisco for two weeks. I'm gingerly making a start to the day, it's beautiful out and I've got a pair of fur pants to walk home in. Loren took me out to the Burning Man Decompression party last night. Suffice to say, I enjoyed myself. Trying to some up the entire evening will take further reflection, but it was definitely an evening to remember. I slowly trying to understand the world I've found out here, a major part of which is Burning Man. Trying to explain what this means to someone is a futile task, as Burning Man encompasses at least 7 different things for every person and there's no guaruntee that there's any similarity between what it means for one person or another. Anyway, I should be heading down the coast this week, to LA but as everyone may know, I'm terrible with deadlines, so I shall get there when I do. That's about it for now, I'm going to figure out where I am and how to get back to Loren's at some point, and eagerly anticipate the ALCS.

Still in San Fran

Well, a week into my trip and I'm still in San Francisco. I've spent the past week with Loren, and we've slipped back into old times without missing a beat. This weekend, I went out with him to a party, which was definitely wild. The music went till dawn, though I had to call it a night at 4am. Loren and I are thinking of trying to collaborate on an art project before I skip town, combining sculpture and photography. I think I should be in San Francisco for another week before I head down to LA. Well, that's pretty much all I have to report for now, I'm going to shower and mosey into town and find a bar showing the Sox/Angels game.
