Byron Bay, OZ

Well, I've made it to the beginning of the beaches. The family rolled into Byron this afternoon after spending last night in Nimbin. It was fun, we decided to camp as high as possible and headed to the summit of the nearby mountain and camped at its peak. After two weeks in the van, we've checked into a hostel to get some much needed space. I plan to spend a few days here in Byron before starting up the coast. I don't know if any or all of us are heading off together, we'll figure that out when I'm ready to rumble on again. But the sun's growing hot and my tan's starting to grow again. Ah... good times.

It's been an interesting two weeks. It has been the longest that I've travelled on the road with three other people, I think. Definitely in such close proximity as Vacilando was everyone's home, not just mine. But the divorce papers are in, the German in-laws are out and our family is taking a break. That said, Malte and Nadja are sitting immediately to my left. And I don't know that I'll ever be able to think about them without thinking about the family that we had in Vacilando. Will there be others? Who knows, but I will rumble on. But till then I'm looking forward to soaking up some sun on the Gold Coast up to Brisbane.
